LED LIGHTING
LED LIGHTING
As the kitchen is both a social environment and a workspace, you want a mixture of ambient and task lighting. Ambient lights will set the mood with a soft glow, while task lights will focus stronger light over key work spaces such as an island or countertop. The key is balancing the two sources so the kitchen is as warm and inviting as it is functional. Are you seeking inspiration to illuminate your next kitchen project? Here are some ideas for using lighting to enhance the volumes in kitchen spaces: Installing downlights or LED strip under kitchen cabinets or shelves provides task lighting to make working easier (and safer!) and also adds a touch of warmth to the space. Placing LED strip lighting inside cabinets helps with visibility when searching for items and can also add a contemporary touch to cabinetry. Backlighting architectural features like kitchen columns and bulkheads creates visual interest, and can also make the space feel larger. Lighting installed above plinths or cabinets adds depth and dimension to the space, creating a real wow effect. Adding lighting into toekicks is a great idea for both visual impact and for gentle lighting that can be left on overnight to make night time feeds (or midnight snack runs!) just a little easier. Get creative with your lighting design and let it elevate the look and feel of your kitchen project! 5 Reasons To Choose LED Lighting
LED lights use up to 80% less energy than standard incandescent light bulbs (Electricity in New Zealand, Electricity Authority, 2016) and will last for thousands of hours. This makes LED lights ideal for hard to reach places, where replacing them can be difficult and/or dangerous.
LED lights can last for many thousands of hours. Because they don't need to be replaced as often as other lights, they're great for hard to reach or hard to access places.
LED lights do not suddenly fail, rather they fade over time, and frequent on/off switching does not impact on their lifespan, so they are excellent for busy areas like kitchens.
LED lights generate very little heat so can be recessed into furniture and cabinets or be used to light artwork without damage. They are also safer than traditional lights as they will stay cool to touch even after several hours of usage.
LED lights have a robust design, making them far sturdier and more durable than traditional light bulbs. Since LEDs don’t use fragile components such as glass and filaments, LEDs are able to withstand shock, vibration and extreme temperature.
